Good Bad Cold Hot

The exhibition is the fifth solo show by Aylin Zaptçıoğlu, a prominent among the young Turkish community of painters with her own distinct style of figurative expression. Good Bad Cold Hot will entertain her works on canvas together with her sculptures in ceramics and clay. The exhibition sets out to approach the subtleties presented by the four fundamental substances, the air, water, fire and earth as archaic philosophical abstractions and to discuss their courtesy in the interpretation of our own quotidian sensations.

Concepts, metaphors, modelings and contrasts inherent in Ancient Greek philosophy or Ancient sciences in early Eastern civilisations prove to be a part of our own 21st century urban life. Despite the common assumption of having achieved a certain level of comfort within our daily surroundings, we cannot divorce ourselves from the idea of inner alterations caused by the natural elements. Is that because we are also made of the air, water, fire and earth? Where do the forces of attraction and repulsion dwell from? In Good Bad Cold Hot , Zaptçıoğlu approaches and treats the four elements in their wide array of reciprocal meanings.
