Tekin sets up the canvas as a multi-dimensional and extensive stage. In his paintings where juxtaposing figures prevail, he investigates the essentiality of the nature of movement. Through the movements of his figures, he enables the co-existence of their figures in a peculiar togetherness of space and time, a contemporary chronotrope. Human beings depicted as if they are floating and flying at the same time, seem to be engraved and yet engrafted through a caress to the canvass. Hereby, they seem to escape from the surface as they also wholeheartedly invite the viewers into the canvas. Then again, they take up this tension with an existentialist dignity and hence reflect a mature aesthetics.

Mehmet Tekin

28.04.2016 - 21.05.2016

The characters Tekin draws within an endless movement express, with both affection and rampancy, the flux of the young masses in late modernity of 2000s in their contradictions. These very scenes that occur on a volatile note on the surface of the canvas appear at the very essence of life and leave traces deep in the beholder’s memory.
