Emel Kurhan
Emel Kurhan (*1977) studied at Studio Berçot in Paris and École du Louvre. Before embarking on contemporary art, she worked in fashion, design and textiles. Together with her sister Yaz Kurhan, she created the fashion brand Yazbukey in 2000. Kurhan’s use of embroidery and her unconven- tional pop compositions chiefly refer to her childhood spent in various countries with her diplomat father and Egyptologist mother. Since 2010, Kurhan lives and works in Istanbul and has had eight one-person exhibitions with Öktem Aykut since 2014.
