Samuel Laurence Cunnane
Samuel Laurence Cunnane (1989, IE) has been making hand-printed photographic work. His method involves an evolving dialogue with photography and its unfoldings. Cunnane has lived in many places in the past decades and this transitory way of living, be it in the west of Ireland, or a neighborhood of Istanbul or in the outskirts of Nagoya in Japan, has had a lasting effect in his very outlook and way of interacting with the perceived world. Cunnane’s work approaches peripheries and transitions, both in physical terms and on an unconscious level. These states of becoming where a fixed point is absent and all is relational is a defining feature of his work. Cunnane has been the subject of exhibitions such as Late Spring, Kerlin Gallery (2024); BEADS, Stations Berlin (2023); New Work, Kerlin Gallery (2020); One Eye Looking at You One Eye Looking for You, Öktem Aykut, (2021); OCT Boxes Museum of Art, Shunde, China (2018); New Work, Öktem Aykut, Istanbul (2017); New Work, Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (2016) and Theodore: Art, New York (2015). Cunnane presented a solo exhibition at Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia where the artist has been a fellow since Spring 2024. Kipple is Cunnane’s third solo exhibition at Öktem Aykut.
