November 21 – January 4, 2025

Banks of River by Francesco Albano will take place at Öktem Aykut from November 21st until January 4th, 2025. The opening will be on Thursday, the 21st of November, between 18.30 – 20.30.

Banks of River marks Francesco Albano’s third exhibition with Öktem Aykut and his fifth one-person exhibition in Istanbul. The 19 sculptures featured in the exhibition represent the artist’s intensive production over the past two years. Since the beginning of his career, Albano has been exploring the relationship between the wear and tear of the human body and the changes that occur in our minds. He views his sculptural practice as a research field that houses a discussion of this relationship through both its everyday and metaphysical aspects. The artist, deeply fascinated by football from an early age, is interested in it for the weight it carries as a form of social opposition and propaganda. In Banks of River, he presents a deeply personal narrative on struggle and existence inspired by football.

Francesco Albano is currently based in Palermo, where he teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts of Palermo. He lived in Istanbul from 2009 to 2014. Two of the works he created during his time in Istanbul are currently on display at Arter as part of the exhibition Suppose You Are Not, which will run until December 29, 2024.
