İhsan Oturmak
Basel Social Club
14.06.2026.-20.06.2026
Basel Social Club returns for its fifth edition from June 14 – 20, 2026, transforming a vacant multi-story office building in central Basel into a temporary social stage for art during Art Basel week. This year’s edition, titled “Office” reconsiders the venue not as a site of production, but as a space for reflection. Once a symbol of efficiency and growth, the office today reflects shifting realities shaped by digitalization, remote work, and artificial intelligence. Basel Social Club engages this condition through exhibitions, performances, music, gastronomy, and informal encounters that explore questions of labor, time, productivity, and rest.
For its fifth edition it presents works by İhsan Oturmak. Through a series of three paintings and one sculpture, Oturmak interrogates the rigid structures of the modern workplace, revealing the underlying tensions between individual agency and systemic obedience. The works are strategically dispersed throughout the office floors and the car park, debuting at Basel Social Club for the first time. Oturmak depicts the “everyday” not as a simple routine, but as a site of micro-resistance and psychological confinement. Oturmak’s visual narratives allow hidden social frictions to rise to the surface, revealing the underlying tensions of a world where personal autonomy is often sacrificed to the collective system.
