The Man with the Straw by Esat Tekand is on view at Öktem Aykut from September 9th until October 3rd, 2026. The opening takes place on Wednesday, September 9th, between 18:30 and 20:30.
The Man with the Straw brings together works from 2011 to the present. Realized in collaboration with Siyah Beyaz —with whom the artist has worked for over 30 years—the exhibition unites different aspects of Tekand’s abstract language. Tekand, who has continuously pursued his explorations of painting and abstraction, sees his works presented together in such a comprehensive manner in Istanbul for the first time in a long while. Comprising 11 large-scale canvases and seven “scribbles” on paper, the exhibition aims to shed light to the rhythm, musicality, and passion for painting inherent in Tekand’s work.
